DIARY OF A SUPPOSED-TO-BE-BALLING-AFRIKAN-GIRL
The temperature today is 83 degrees! For some of you living in Europe, this could be classified as hot, but I can tell you my dear girl, I have definitely seen worst in this dangerous too-hot-to-be-true Valley of a Place.
I sit, crossed legged on my black office chair, that once held space in the Ikea store at Burbank, admiring my sheer lace pin up bullet bra.
No one knows why I wear these, but I definitely find them sexier than the typical push-up bras that every girl is used to wearing these days. They remind me of a Madonna 1950's look, and I absolutely love them, and own them both in white and black! [FIND HERE ]
As I lean on this fairly old oak colored desk, several thoughts come to mind. Among them is the beautiful fact that I just saw myself on TV today on GSN's Mind of a Mind, hosted by De Ray Davis. Its a show that I booked sometime last year...
There is also the obvious life-changing news that I learnt of a few days ago, that
I AM the youngest female published author from Cameroon!
All I remember thinking about was : WOW. A long time ago, it was only a dream...
That should be a big deal right? One would think so, but it is not always the case!
In another country, I would be all over the news now... It would be a cause for national glory... but not mine. :(
And that is a complete other conversation.
....
The one that is on my mind now is this...
Where are the $$$$ in my account? I just logged into my Wells Fargo online banking account now, to read a disappointing, excuse for an account balance. $10!
SOME ONE SHOOT ME ALREADY!
No that's not completely accurate! There is $$$$ in there, but I wish it belonged to me ( Yeah, my dad is visiting)... another story...
What belongs to me on there is $10!!!!
Ten Dollars miserable dollars ! Five thousand francs CFA, ?? 1627.50 Naira? 30.02 Ghana Cedi! No way!!!
Wasn't it just the other day that I had $2000 dollars? Well, in this city that is nothing, as your BILLS will have the best of you! Rent, phone bills, internet, food, and all that!
Not to talk about the fact that Amazon royalties for my novel are taking forever to get deposited in my account... book signing sales are being used to pay PR, and plan other trips...Whoa! Maybe I should move to Africa! Or maybe not!

Was it not just three days ago that my dad asked me to get a real job?
I don't blame him...
He is just being a good parent.
But that is another story

THE REAL REAL REAL PROBLEM IS...
Three major things are going on this weekend... I want to go to all three, for various reasons.
Why is this then a problem?
1. One of my favorite African artists DAVIDO is in TOWN for the BET Awards on Saturday, (which I was supposed to go to... But that is another story). HE has a PERFORMANCE tonight and my good friend, the DEEJAY invited me...

I have been advertising it on IG for several weeks...
2. My LAWYER is hosting TIWA SAVAGE on SUNDAY, and he just called me thirty minutes ago to invite me... ( She too is here for the BET)
3. My UNCLE just INVITED me to the BAY AREA to come and SELL BOOKS this WEEKEND at this CAMEROONIAN EVENT... and rent is due, so ...
Awesome Right? Some extra money to do the things that I love, but here is the problem...
My uncle will be here to pick up my visiting parents (who land in, from Brazil in half an hour) this afternoon. (Precisely at 2pm)
That leaves me with two options...
1) I can go with them today , and catch a free ride ( Save $$)
OR
2) STAY and watch Davido tonight, and then Catch a flight tomorrow morning to San Fran to sell my books... and those flights don't come in cheap either. As cheap as they want to be, they can never cost 10 Bucks! That's a fact...

So the problem here becomes, what does an Afrikan girl do???

Join author Sahndra Fon Dufe, for a book signing of Yefon: The Red Necklace, at the Cambay Festival where BFU is actively participating.
Cultural activities are from 12pm-8pm. The Toh and Khan Dances will be performed.

LESSON LEARNT:
After several moments of deep thought, the answer came to me!
I am an artist, with numerous fans of my own... nothing as fancy as those two... mine are still in the thousands, but you catch my drift...
The only reason I am so itchy to see Tiwa or Davido is because they worked hard, and went past the stage in which I find myself in, today.
They once felt these feelings I feel now, but they rose above it, and maintained their brand such that it became even more powerful...
I love their music. I am a FAN.
But...
I chose selling my books in the bay area... not only to make money, but also to meet people and continue strengthening my brand in their minds and hearts, so that one day people would itch to come see me too, and perhaps find themselves in this place where I find my self in today.
AND WHEN THEY DO,
REMEMBER TO CHOOSE YOU ALWAYS!
There would always be millions of chances to meet any celebrity you really like,
but only FEW chances to brand yourself!
That being said,
