5 THINGS TO PACK WHEN GOING FOR A DESTINATION WEDDING

Destination weddings
have become increasingly popular!
The couple invites their guests to a location,
more than 100 miles away from home;
typically some exotic resort, for a
few days to celebrate one of the most
important days of their lives:
Jamaica, Belise, Barbados,
Mexico, Mars... You name it!

❤❤
My parents and I
were invited to a wedding this summer.
You see, I don't particularly care for weddings:
long ceremonies, weepy adults and fuckboys
who think they want to marry you...

You get the idea... but, this wedding invitation caught
my attention: four days ... on the all inclusive

El Dorado Royale resort, South of Cancun, Mexico!

El Dorado Royale resorts, Cancun.

A romantic get away: for most, capable of
melting ice. (in my case, there was no romance.)

El Dorado Royale resorts, Cancun.

I packed all types of stuff,
which I did NOT use, and left out some
things that I would have used
had I known ...
Needless to say my trip taught me a thing or
two about HOW To Pack for such weddings.
I am more than happy to share with you.
 It’s all here...💃

*NB: Most of my examples cite my experience in Cancun,
but feel free to adapt it to your own trip.

These five notes, will be a lifesaver
for your upcoming voyage...

SOME ESSEN-TIALS:

👅💥💥💋💋

1. LAYER IT UP HUN-TEE

Credit: Shershegoes.
Listen, the weather in Cancun is an unpredictable as pregnancy.
On a sightseeing trip to Tulum, some forty five minutes
from the resort where I was staying,
an unexpected tropical rain
poured angrily on our van.

I was quite surprised
when bright sunshine emerged

exactly five minutes later.
It is thus in your interest to pack in layers.
(e.g. a tee under, a jacket that can come off or on as needed).

*Essentials
Jacket.
Sunglasses.
A hat.
Some scarves.
Sundresses.
Jeans.
Flat shoes.
Basic tees.
Club outfit.
Shorts.

Bikini.

Yes, you definitely need to pack a banging' bikini,
like this tribal queen   from
Amiclubwear.($49).

2. WHAT IT DO, DEAR SKIN?

So, yes it goes without saying that you'd have to bring
the following items (in travel size) for your skin.

(NB: TSA 3.4oz travel size )

a. An Insect Repelling spray:

Be prepared to encounter mosquitoes
who are not there to hear about your
interesting life!
Evil little monsters ready to make
your skin bumpy and unbelievably itchy.
Thankfully, they don't carry
malaria, but their bites still hurt.

Few minutes before I got stung by the ant.

In the Mayan jungle,
some black ants, with large mandibles
stung my right foot.
Thankfully, our helpful tour guide
provided me with a antidote.

I recommend a water based, alcohol-free
spray like Ben's 30 Tick and & Insect Repellant,
which repels mosquitoes, ants, ticks, gnats, and insects
with the Nile Virus, malaria etc.

Ben's 30 Tick and & Insect Repellant ($9.99)

b. Sunscreen:

Yes, black people. :) Even YOU.
Choose a formula that will work
 best with your particular
skin type, while protecting it in both
 the short and long-term.
Try these .

c. Make up Finishing Spray:

Let me tell you : Nothing will prepare your
"beat face" for the humidity
it's about to experience.
If you'd prefer to see your makeup
stay in place, and not run down like
an old woman's cleavage
you better take a potent
make up finishing spray
for the humidity.

(1 oz/ 30 ml | $15 Travel size | Sephora.com

I recommend one used for bridal make up.
Many brands make good ones, but I stole a little of my mother's
Urban Decay, all nighter (travel size $15) for my Cancun stay.

d. Antiperspirant Deodorant :
Enough said.
Whatever your preferences are, kindly
pack antiperspirant deodorant.

e. Smell good :
On the same note,
a nice sweet, smell can be all the conversation starter
you need :) How about this Vera Wang Embrace Eau de Toilette?($26.97)

(I received it complimentary from Influentser, and I love it!)

3. CASH MONEY IN PESOS AND DOLLARS :

On most resorts in Cancun, you can pay in dollars.
It's however, best to carry money in cash. During our vacation,
Citibank took us on a ride, with debit cards
not working at one point, and the ATM being a hater,
refusing to work when needed .
After spending $400, at a place, it's not a good idea
for your card to decide not to work
when its time to pay.

17 Pesos = 1 USD.*

You also don't want to deal with a fraud case,
that could very well come up
with the savvy minds of your
average 419 scammer.

My recommendation?
Avoid suspicious stares from your vendor by
cashing it.
If you don't end up using all your cash,
you can deposit it in your bank account upon your return.

I recommend converting a minimum
of $500- $1000 in cash,
and breaking $200
in to small amounts like $5, and lots of ones.

Trust me, there would be a lot of tipping to go around.
(drivers, tour guides, servers, masseuses, helpers, etc)

4. WEDDING 0UTFIT:

You're probably going to be turning up a lot! But don't forget,
you still came for a wedding! You still need to look fly,
and if you're a desperate spinster, you still
need to catch some fish.

I recommend you choose a dress that's light,
airy and preferably silky.
You can read all about the dress I wore here. ❤❤

5. SHOES ❤:

So, I packed a bunch of shoes, but only ended up wearing
the ones with comfortable heels, wedges. and sneakers,
Just so you know, resorts are huuuuuge!

You'll do lots of walking. Sometimes, it may start raining
in the middle of nowhere.

At night time, when you go to a bar, most of the golf
cart cars stop working, so you may have to walk back.
Make sure you pack flip flops. rubber shoes,
💓💗💕💓

6. TRAVEL ❤ DOCS:

Let's talk visa, flights and all the important, boring stuff.
1. Visa:
You may not need a visa if planning to
visit Mexico Green card holders
irrespective of their nationality DO NOT
need a visa to travel to Mexico.
You however need to present
 a valid passport for stamping
at Immigration.

iPhone 6 S+ Selfie On Aeromexico flight to Cancun.
2. Flight and Luggage:
If you're from the United States, on some flights,
you may have to pay for a bag ( $25 per piece).
Not to be hater, and mostly out of experience,
I do not recommend Aero Mexico,
but if you must, then take it,but be ready for
cancelled or late flights, and a fleet of angry
customers demanding better service.

Reading Sai Baba of Surdi  on the plane.

Also,
be ready for employees who lack enthusiasm,
and don't feel like helping.
Now that my pettiness is over, know
that your flight will most likely transit
in the huge airport in Mexico city,
and then continue to the smaller, friendlier airport in Cancun;
one filled with overenthusiastic workers,
who are willing to help out by all means necessary.

Be prepared to be welcomed by a boastful spiderman
who promises you a better experience than Las Vegas.

7. LINGO LINGO... ❤ HABA ESPANOL?:

So fyi, you'll probably return home saying "hola".
Go figure. Not everyone can speak English. Don't be surprised
to hear "no English" after pouring your heart out for five minutes.
I recommend a Language app, that can help with simple phrases.
Hola!
