Dear Afrikan Girl,

My oyibo* friend asks me to hang out. Cool.

It is a warm summer afternoon; I could use an

excuse to spray on some sunscreen and

sip on a cold spiked .

Our conversation goes something like this:

I think I am too African*  for this one,

but I must be a good sport.  Truth is, my oyibo friends

would totally come with me to my

“ connect-with-the-ancestors” African drumming

class in Altadena if I invited them.

So, I say Yes.

But, I don’t feel like wearing jeans and a T-shirt.

I woke up feeling too bougie today. Too je-ne-sais-quoi.

I know I must wear a !

low - cut in the back.

Just kidding. I am “not really” dating, at the moment.

This is no ordinary tan dress!

It's a $200 William B and Friends ,

and no I DID NOT buy it!

My landlady gifted it to me, maybe as a peaceful

truce to our never-ending fights

and gladly, I obliged.

1. THE DRESS :

The dress is one of William B's older
flowery designs.
The front plunges into a V-neck,

and the back has soft ruffles.

No bra required! Yay me! I hate bras.

Because it's one of his much older designs,
they don't carry it anymore.
However, I took the liberty of
searching the internet for
replacements. Thankfully, I was
able to find other options online
that emulate the flowery ruffles.

Ruffled georgette Ralph Lauren
Dress at $163.
It has the same V-neck, silky look with ruffles,
and comes in a lighter tan shade.

I picked this option because of its
floral pattern, and colors.

wrap dress with a sexy slit,
and it is not ONLY the most sultry,
but also has the best price, at a whopping $17.90
I picked it for its V-neck, silky look and that
sexy sexy slit.
That chocolate color also
does wonders for
melanin!

2. THE FLIP FLOPS :

For this look, I opted for a pair of tan flip flops with wedge platforms.

I chose these over sandals,

just to tone down the formal nature of silk!

My slippers only cost only $4, and they are from Wish. com, a shopping app.



They come in several different colors, ranging from
bright yellow, black, green and tan (mine).

as it blends perfectly with
my African feet.
