Dear Afrikan Girl, 11 Ways to Celebrate this JULY 4th...#AfrikanGirlStyle

DIARY OF A SUPPOSED-TO-BE-BALLING-AFRIKAN-GIRL

                                             .... >>>....

Dear Afrikan Girl,

Some of us have lived in foreign countries for several years, and celebrated several foreign holidays, that you did or didn't understand, and every other year, you do it again...

Just because... it's a day off work, or a day to see your family...

***
I HAVE GOOD NEWS FOR YOU!

***
It doesn't always have to be that way....

What if I told you I figured out,  11 ways to

Celebrate JULY 4TH,

Afrikan Girl Style?

Where the day is all about you...

Find out HOW...

But before that...

                                                    HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!

...................................................................................................................................................................
#africansbelike

For those of you, who don't know what that means, or who do, and are just not sure what it signifies, I got you...

****

And hey, don't feel bad if you don't know... Americans don't know all of our respective dates                                                                     of independence #justsaying.

July 4th is an American holiday- their national day, where people have cook outs,( Barbecue) drink beer and watch fireworks...

As ignorant, as that sounds, that Pretty much sums up three of the major activities I see people do on this day... Of course, a more historical approach to the matter is, saying that it is the day that America got its freedom from Britain.

***

Can you really Imagine an America that wasn't free? That is, if you consider it free today. #oxymoron

But Abeg wetin concern us?

Question?

My friends and I are celebrating ours, with an African cook out... Basically all of us will pot luck, with meal varieties from all over Africa (mostly West)... I am very excited!

>>>>

I look forward to it, frankly and if the main host(ess) (my friend/ sister Jubi) found out that I was still awake at 4AM writing on this blog,  she would use me for pepper soup...

Learn How To Cook Pepper soup Here.

AND I found out you told her...

Yes, she's actually bad ass Afrikan Girl. Follow her (Shout out @mshweety )

BACK TO THE STORY...

But thankfully she may never find out... Lol. Please don't tag her, and if you do

...

Before, I continue, A BIG thank you to all those of you who accepted my beautiful gift: my novel! on Twitter. Find out How I became Bestseller

Now, to the reason why you came here...

LEARN 11 WAYS TO CELEBRATE JULY 4TH Afrikan Girl Style
If you use any of these, Tell me which one on social media :) @sahndrafondufe

#1.  CALL THE FAM*

Some of us don't live with our parents/ family. (even though mine are visiting now).

If that's the case, please Pick up your telephone and call all your family members... Granny, Mum, Dad, aunties, and uncles and the rest.

Or else,  they shall vex with you ooo! Don't say I did not warn you!!!

*Warning: Please don't shout. Why are we always shouting on the phone? #oldhabitsdiehard.

#2.  EAT EAT EAT*

July 4th is a good excuse to eat achu, koki (moin moin), eba (cooked garri) and icecream on the same day... Actually Euw... but you get the point! Eat as much as you like!

But remember the #wise saying, which goes 'Do as I say, not as I do', because I will not be following this particular piece of advice! LMAO.

Warning: Random Explosive Bathroom Breaks may be warranted. *Overeating (gluttony) may also result to mean remarks from friends who haven't seen you in a long time, eg 'How you don fat so'? 'Chai!!! You have put on so much weight'! 'You are so fat'

* Disclaimer: Dear Americans, in my country, when some one tells you you are fat, it is not a bad thing. It simply means you are not thin.

#3.  MOVIE NIGHT WITH THE GIRLS*

Dear Afrikan Girl, My apologies that I couldn't find any Afrikan models, but you get the point...

July 4th is a great opportunity to get the girls together, and Watch a nice movie !

 Please no sad movies!

It' s July 4th for crying out loud!

So as much as I would like to ask you to watch Half of a Yellow Sun today, I think today is a day for more of a chick flick, something light, fluffy, feel good, fits-the-mood type of film.

You can do so at home, or at the movies...

These are my recommendations:

If you wanna stay at home, I think you should watch

Orange is the New Black on NetFlix.

or

A good Naija film... one of those dramatic ones with university girls are fighting each other in the middle of the school court, with shirts being pulled down... over the 21 year old school hunk, played by Clem Ohameze.

Seriously who casts these films?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! (Please no vex. Abeg o, I love Nollywood...) Just being funny...

For real, I recommend,  Flower Girl on Iroko TV...

or
Sisters At War. Frankly I haven't seen it, but I can vouch for Okawa (Cameroon princess), Yvonne (Damilola) and Jackie Appiah.

If you CHOOSE to go to the movies, ...

A nice movie to watch with the girls is..

THINK LIKE A MAN TOO

If you STILL feel like staying home, and you ignore my advice, and feel like watching some heavy the help- meets- twelve-years-a-slave drama, then log into , and watch Half of A Yellow SUN (Find out why)

#4. READ A NOVEL*

Dear Afrikan Girl, Reading is GREAT for you! I know most of us associate reading with school or work, i.e  #seriousstuff,

but

I can assure you that reading novels is actually very beneficial to you as it can educate, entertain and inspire you in the same ways that movies, music, or any other form of art does.

#8 DO SOMETHING PATRIOTIC*

Dear Afrikan Girl, Whatever this phrase means to you is what it means to you...

Something patriotic to me means something that shows how much you care about the country

It could be something as simple as  listening to the national anthem,

singing it (or try to), if not, just listen to some one watch it... That's what I did. LMAO

Other fun patriotic things you can try include...

You can donate to an org that supports
patriotic activities.

# 9 . WATCH FIRE WORKS*

 Dear Afrikan Girl,

This is as cliche' as it gets...

It's not JULY 4th without exciting, loud fireworks

(that really sound like gunshots)  exploding through the skies...
It is definitely not complete without a hunky hard-rock chocolate chest to lean on like this...

Oh lawd! Wearing a shirt, of course...
But in the absence of this, you can also, be yourself for a change, with your girlfriends, dancing under the moonlight, being dramatic (One of the only few times, when it is actually allowed)... LMAO.

***

I love Anderson Cooper ;)

***

Some fun things you can do while watching fireworks include:

* Letting go and howling to the moon
*Share a bottle of champagne with a hunk, or a friend
* Simply watching (You can a record a video)
* On the freakier side, you can erm, give a kneeling kiss to your other half... If you catch my drift ...

Did I just say that? LMAO. I have been disowned lol.

*Google to find out spots in your city that will be having firework shows! For SoCal, check here.

#10 BEER TRICKS*

I know you MIGHT drink some beer...

Okay... May Be You DO DRINK BEER. Lol

If you do,

Try opening the bottle with these cool tricks !!!

#11 Go To An Afrikan Club*

Yes ooo! Selle Bobo! What better way is there to crown your July 4th celebrations than going to shake that nyash / gobe at at African club?

It's Friday night, you don't have to work the next day (at least, most of us)...

And I can't see a better way to burn all those calories from the day...

If you're L.A , the place to be on July 4th Night, is the  Savoy.

Address: 218 S La Brea Ave, Inglewood, CA 90301

    ***
If  you are not able to go out, (e.g if your parents are visiting like mine) , you can

do what my friends and I do all the time... We put music at home and...

***

This song can make some one's waist to break!

#12 LAUGH* LAUGH* LAUGH*

I am almost rounding up with this list, and I have had sooo much fun putting this list together for you...
